Benson’s Bubbles Dog Shampoo

(7 customer reviews)

If you’ve got a dog or you’re a dog groomer you’ll know the rigmarole of trying to spread liquid shampoo through a dogs coat when you’re bathing or showering them.  You either use too much or not enough, you get some up one end and none up the other, it foams too much or not enough and you have to keep reapplying the shampoo when you miss a bit.  And then comes the rinsing….. nightmare!

Then once you’ve shampoo’d you find can’t get rid of the bubbles and your dogs coat just keeps foaming and foaming and all the time their poor skin is drying out due to the foaming agents in the shampoo.

Enter solid shampoo.  Not only is this shampoo completely natural, packed with gorgeous oils and butters plus pure essential oils to care for and nurture your dogs skin and condition their coat but it’s also really easy to apply.

Why Benson’s Bubbles Dog Shampoo?

This is Benson.  He is my doggy grandson.  He is beautiful and I love him to bits.  But….. as you can see from this montage of pictures he loves muddy puddles.  In fact he loves anything water or mud related and he particularly enjoys rolling in anything disgusting.

Benson loves muddy puddles!

You can see the pleasure on his face when he’s doing it so you really can’t be cross with him for too long but boy does he stink sometimes!

Skin wise he’s quite a sensitive soul.  His coat gets flaky and itchy due to the amount of hosings down and baths he has to have due to his mud obsession.

His mum was having trouble finding shampoos that were both effective and gentle enough for his skin.

We needed to come up with a solution that would work for him and that would be both beneficial and cost effective.  Natural liquid shampoos can cost loads and tend to run out very quickly due to Benson being such a big boy.  I did lots of research and experimented with several versions and eventually came up with the ultimate woof wash.  I have called it Benson’s Bubbles Dog Shampoo in honour of the gorgeous mud monster that inspired it.

It has been tested on Benson and declared to be great at covering large areas of dog quickly and easily. It naturally lathers just the right amount to allow for thorough cleaning and then it rinses out quickly and thoroughly to leave his coat clean, smelling fresh and not flaky or itchy.

So what’s in Benson’s Bubbles Dog Shampoo?

I’ve made the shampoo base from lots of lovely cold pressed and organic oils to ensure that it is caring and nurturing for a dogs skin.  There’s organic avocado oil, jojoba oil and evening primrose oils which are all very moisturising and calming to the skin. Coconut, olive and apricot kernel oils form the base of the shampoo plus some castor oil for lots of big bubbles and a shiny coat.

Organic neem oil has been added as it is so beneficial to both a dogs coat and skin and is very effective at warding off fleas and ticks and I’ve also added a dollop of aloe vera for its extra skin calming effects.  Green clay detoxes and cleanses too.

Neem oil is an amazing oil for all hair and skin related issues but it has quite a distinctive odour of its own. So to ward off the pong of goodness I’ve added a very carefully blended selection of dog friendly essential oils which are effective for their calming, soothing and anti bacterial effects on a dogs coat and skin.

How do I apply it?

Benson’s bubbles dog shampoo will lather even in cold water so if you’ve got to hose your hound down outside it will still be effective.  If you’re bathing your bow wow just wet the coat and rub the whole bar over their coat a few times.  Rub it in and it will lather just enough to clean the coat, although if your dog is really dirty you might need to rinse and repeat until all the yucky stuff is removed.  The shampoo should rinse out thoroughly and will leave their coat feeling fresh but not stripped of all its natural oils.

As with all dog shampoos go careful around their head area and don’t get it in their eyes, ears or nose.

The bar is a nice big chunk of soap that’s easy to handle (around 150g) but feel free to cut it up to suit your needs.

I used this soap on my Jack Russel last night, it is SUPERB! Not only did it turn him white again (he loves rolling in everything and turns a dusty grey very quickly!) it has also reduced his scratching and itching.

It is easy to apply, I literally rubbed the bar all over him, foams really well but not to much to be silly and very importantly it rinses off really easily. When it’s hot I rinse him off with the hose in the garden, I wouldn’t normally use a shampoo but I will be using this shampoo bar at the same time, it’s that good and easy to use.

Summary: If you want a very clean dog that smells much better and itches less by using something that is easy to apply and rinse off, this is it.

A great and easy soap to use on my dog (who’s a very reluctant bather). Best of all several weeks on he’s not turned into his normal smelly self again which he normally does after only a few days.

Used this dog shampoo bar on Evie a few weeks ago, the heatwave seemed a good time to get the old tin bath out in the garden. She hates being bathed and usually I have to have an extra pair of hands, but holding her with one hand and massaging her with soap with the other was ideal. Lovely lather and a nice smelling hound.
Just back from a dog walk and Evie found the only muddy puddle in Essex, resulting in black, smelly legs. It didn’t come off with the hose, but a rub with the soap bar has done the job…thank you!

My brother buys this for his Bassett hound as she suffers with itchy skin. It lathers well and has reduced her itchiness and brought the shine back to her coat.

This has proved brilliant for getting the Mersea mud off Thomas with the hose (a regular occurrence , so the soap and hose also comes into play regularly too). His coat is actually even glossier than it was, since we started using it. I cut the bar into a couple of lumps with a sharp knife , in order to use one bit up first, so as not to waste it. And I am not ashamed to say that it smells so delicious that I borrowed it (the fresh bit!) and showered with it myself!

I’ve done that too Kath. I’ve never had such a shiny coat and cold wet nose! 😂 xx

I love this soap. So much easier than using liquid soaps. I would like to say that my dogs like it too, but sadly they hate baths! At least they smell nice after the bath though.

My dog Daisy loves a bath and I used to really dislike using the nasty stuff from pet shops. Maldon soap has produced just what we needed . So glad I bought some and it last for ages.
